The Rotary Club of Orange, Virginia, established the David M. Sherman Memorial Scholarship in 2024. The $5,000.00 annual scholarship will be awarded to a deserving Orange County High School graduate who plans to attend Virginia Tech to study engineering.

David's parents, W.A. Sherman Jr. "Welford" and Irwin M. Sherman, donated the Community Memorial Christmas Tree in Orange's Taylor Park and funded this scholarship in David’s memory. David was 8 years old when he died after a gallant fight with cancer in 1958. He loved the beautiful twinkling Christmas lights on the trees lining the streets of New York while there for surgeries and treatments. His joy inspired the idea of a Community Memorial Christmas Tree for Orange, VA.

 

David's scholarship will be administered by OCHS Alumni and Friends Foundation, Inc., and options for donating can be found below.
